The brand that transformed reviews into an operations dashboard
3 Day Blinds joined Aspect by ConsumerAffairs in 2019 for its search authority and online visibility. Their star rating has held steady at ~4.5 stars ever since. But a strong rating was only part of the draw. They came to read every review as a signal, tag it, and route it to the team that can use it to improve their business.

Every piece of customer feedback is a potential work item
Most companies think of reviews as the goal, but for 3 Day Blinds each review is an input.
The team keeps a running list of aspects
Akilah Thomas, who owns brand and sentiment, watches what customers say and sorts feedback to the part of the business it references. The team responds to every review by hand, so they know exactly what customers think in real time.
The team keeps a running keyword list split based on specific “aspects.” They route the related aspects to different departments to address:
The tags they route on
Sentiment is what we track… and then we kind of field it back to the different departments – anything people are saying about the sales or customer service aspects.
An aspect, not a complaint, reaches the right department
The team matches the aspect of the feedback to the correct destination.
For example, a “no-show” is a sales problem; a “mismeasured” order goes to sales leadership for coaching, or to an install service manager when an installer was involved in a remake; a slow repair is a customer-service problem. The aspect of the review is what they use to send the feedback to the team that can fix the underlying issue.
- Design consultant no-show
- Sales
- Misordered / mismeasured
- Sales Leadership
- Backorder
- Operations
- Repair / install turnaround
- Customer Service
The routing above is illustrative of how the tags map to owners.
The small stream of complaints is the early-warning system
Two streams of reviews arrive every month and they say opposite things. The small one is the one worth acting on.
Asked customers rate 4.7★
Proactive phone and email collection brought in 647 of the 749 reviews logged across 24 months: 353 by phone averaging 4.79★, 294 by email averaging 4.59★. This is the satisfied majority, on the record, and it is what holds the displayed rating near 4.5.
Unasked customers rate 1.3★
The 99 unprompted reviews are barely a seventh of the volume and average 1.30★. Thin, but it is the only stream nobody asked for, and it is where the operational detail sits. Akilah already knows what the negative reviews say. In our negative reviews, it’s mostly around turnaround time for repairs or installation. That’s our biggest negative.
Those negative reviews tell 3 Day Blinds the exact process to fix.

From a 2-star review to a scheduled repair
A routed complaint is only useful if something happens next. So anything three stars or below triggers a defined process.
-
Open a case
For any review of three stars or less, the team manually opens a case to track it to resolution.
-
Reach out personally
The team contacts the customer directly, and if the order can’t be found, uses ConsumerAffairs’ Assisted Resolution.
-
Schedule the fix
If a repair or re-measure is needed, they make sure it gets booked.
-
Close the loop
Once it’s resolved, they ask the customer to update the review. This resolution is the most powerful type of review: a spotlight on the company’s ability to help customers.
Aspect automatically tags the aspects of the review
3 Day Blinds had been assigning keywords to reviews by hand in a separate review-tracker tool.
Type the keywords once
ConsumerAffairs’ Smart Labels let you type the keywords once, and the platform auto-tags every matching review, including the entire back catalog, all the way to 2015. New reviews get labeled the moment they arrive.
I like that it’s automated. And we don’t have to go back and tag everything manually.
The benefit to understanding every piece of customer feedback
3 Day Blinds first partnered with Aspect by ConsumerAffairs in 2019 for its search authority and online visibility. That’s one of the main reasons brands choose Aspect as their reputation partner. Seven years later that visibility is still an important part of the relationship, but 3 Day Blinds built something more on top of it. The reviews are a structured, department-addressable feed of what’s actually happening in the field.
- “Our rating is already good – what would ConsumerAffairs add?”
- The rating is the byproduct. The asset is a steady stream of 749 customer insights tagged with aspects and routed to sales, operations, and service.
- “We track keywords in another tool already.”
- Smart Labels tags new reviews automatically on arrival, plus the full history. No need to tag by hand.
- “How do reviews help operations, not just marketing?”
- The stream of complaints surfaces field issues like repair and install turnaround time, the brand’s No. 1 negative, and routes the problem to the team that can fix it.
- “What happens to a bad review after we read it?”
- The team opens a case for every review of three stars or less, works it to a scheduled fix, and closes the loop with a re-review request.
